Top Free Things To Do In Central Florida

Whether you already live here or are planning to in the near future, there is a lot more to see and do in this area that visit the theme parks. I've compiled a list of the Top Free Things to Do in Central Florida.

Downtown Celebration

Visit Celebration, Florida

Celebration is a master-planned and Disney-Developed community located just miles from the Walt Disney World Resort. The downtown area is full of restaurants and coffee shops, and you can even rent bicycles to explore the area! Celebration is home to a campus of Stetson University, and boasts miles upon miles of walking trails, some of which are boardwalk-style and go through the woods. In December, the town gets decorated and snow falls from the sky. If you decide to walk around town, keep your eyes open and cameras ready when walking near a pond- there are plenty of Florida alligators lurking around! Click here for more information!

Universal's City Walk

Universal Studios' City Walk offers free parking for Florida Residents after 6 PM. For non-residents, or before 6 PM, the cost is $17. There is plenty to do- from restaurants to shopping, from Blue Man group shows to miniature golf, there is something for everyone!

Take a Hike at Circle-B-Bar Preserve

Circle-B-Bar Preserve was once a cattle ranch that has been brought to its former natural Florida state. This is a top place to go if you want to see Florida alligators. The preserve is home to an abundance of wildlife other than alligators, though. The last time I went, my husband and I saw a bobcat. This is also a very popular area for birdwatching, and American bald eagles can sometimes be found here. Other than being a hiking area, there is a vistor center that is extremely informative and interesting. You can also opt to take a tram tour instead of walking alongside the lake. Take a Tour of the Lakeridge Winery

Located in Clermont, the Lakeridge Winery offers free tours with complementary wine tastings seven days a week. The company produces over 1 million bottles of wine per year, and has won over 600 awards for excellence in winemaking. A few times a year, the winery hosts  events where participants can stomp grapes. Click here for more information!

Visit Disney Springs

Formerly known as Downtown Disney, Disney Springs has it all. In the mood to go bowling or watch a movie? How about see a Cirque du Soileil show, or see your favorite band perform at The House of Blues? Looking for a perfect Disney-inspired Christmas gift in March, or do you want to explore the world's largest Disney store? There is truly something for everyone in one convenient location, and parking is always free. Click here for more information!

Go Outlet Shopping

Along the I-4 corridor there are plenty of opportunities to go shopping. Orlando boasts two major malls, the Mall at Millenia, and The Florida Mall. However, what most people enjoy visiting are the Orlando Premium Outlets. There are two locations for these outlets- one is near Disney Springs on Vineland Road, and the other is at the northern terminus of International Drive. You can visit their website to find out which stores are located at each location. Click here for more information!

Visit Old Town for the Car Show, Concert, or Rides

Old Town is free to enter, but if you want to go on any of the amusement rides, they have a cost. Old Town has shopping and food venues, and they also have special events to enjoy. On Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, they host car shows. There are also bands that play for free on most days of the week. There is truly something for everyone in the family to enjoy here. Click here for more information!

Watch a Rocket Launch at Kennedy Space Center

Although you can drive all the way to Cape Canaveral to see a rocket launch, here in Central Florida we can see them even in daylight if we look towards our east. This can be tricky because even if you know the time it should launch, sometimes there are delays. I recommend live-streaming the launch countdown from KSC to make sure you are positive that it is launching. If you do drive to Port Canaveral to watch the launch, some of the places that you can go include Kennedy Point Park, Marina Park, Rotary Riverfront Park and Sand Point Park, which are all located of of U.S. 1 on the shore of the Indian river. All of the parks offer free parking and public restrooms. You can also pack some food and use the picnic tables and grills.  Click here for the launch schedule.
