SNOWBIRDS INVESTING IN A HOME FROM HOME

Many residents of the  northern USA states, Canada and Europe spend many weeks 'Snowbirding' in Orlando  and the surrounding areas during the winter months , looking for respite from their snowbound towns and cities with prolonged sub zero temperatures in the warm temperatures and sunny blue skies so typical of Florida. Many Snowbirds over the years have come to love their 2nd hometown and all it has to offer - in addition to the usual theme park attractions and a myriad of golf courses, the shopping plazas and designer outlets that all the tourists know so well and associate with Orlando and the area, such as the wide range of theatres from the brand new Dr Phillip's Performing Arts Center to the smaller more intimate community theatre venues, such as Osceola Arts Centers http://www.osceolaarts.org/ and an array of museums throughout the region. Snowbirds will also attend local clubs and meetings making new friends who are also their neighbors and integrating into their neighbourhood.

Most Snowbirds rent their "home from home" which seems a good idea but it can cost you more in the long run, so purchasing your own "home from home" in Orlando and the surrounding area may be a better proposition. {mls: O5387476}Image title

Reasons why it may be better to buy your own 'Snowbird' home than to rent

1) Renting a home for 3 to 4 months can be costly - anything from $2350 - $5000 per month depending on type and size of home. Also unless it is a home you rent year after year then renting different homes each year brings its own surprises and disappointments as you can never be entirely sure what the home will be line until you've walked through the front door. With a home of your own then the furnishings and features are are of your choosing, you don't need to bring lots of luggage with you as you can keep your 'Florida wardrobe' in your closet.Image title

2 ) There could also be some tax advantages to owning a Florida 'home from home' especially if you do decide to generate some income through short term rental, as your home is then considered your 'business' so expenses such as insurance, maintenance etc may be deducted - it is best to consult with an accountant or tax expert on this.

3) Of course you may also wish to relocate permanently to the  Orlando area on your retirement and having been a 'Snowbird' up to this period gives you the advantage of knowing the area, establishing friendships and also being a part of the community.
