You may be thinking about remodelling your bathroom ready to list your home for sale so here are a few hints and tips to consider.
It was apparent a few years back that home design professionals 'borrowed' the spa concept from the swanky hotels and resorts to give the bathroom a soothing ambiance, but another metamorphosis is underway ... some home designers are finding that some clients who travel frequently no longer want to be reminded of a hotel at home, they want a more personalized style. still luxurious but with a more environmentally sensitive emphasis. So what are the emerging trends?
Bring in natural light with big windows, usually placed near a vanity where someone applies make up.
Integrate room functions with barriers between different spaces in the master bedroom again disappearing as bedrooms open to bathrooms and walk-in closets ... a retake on the loft look.
No more whirlpool baths which are considered large and noisy and also high maintenance. Although not everyone wants just a shower, so if you have the space you may want to consider a free-standing tub. If you're a senior then a specialist step in bath would be the better option.
Shower jets or shower jets The 2 person shower was a popular design a few years back but in realty most people want a shower large enough for one, somewhere around 4 feet by 5 feet as it still retain that nestled feeling. Also the multi jet and spray shower is making way for the big rain head. A built in bench and niche for products is also recommended.
Create a sleeker look with a a floating vanity this type of wall mounted 'floating' vanity rather than the floor to counter style can make the bathroom look larger. Also for those with disabilities requiring a wheelchair or special seating, a floating vanity can accommodate such equipment.
To add color and texture or not ... White still ranks #1 in the color palette for bathrooms, including the grout, although there is a trend towards variations in creams and grays,.For a more dramatic look a touch of bolder color but this should be used judiciously .... perhaps choose one wall and paint or tile it in the bold color block, or add a touch of texture with tiling or cabinetry and rather than the usual cast iron enamel for the basins or bath use resin with tinted glass or gold or bronze accents.
So what is on the way out? Large, high-maintenance whirlpool tubs; multi jet and spray showers; Small glass and mosaic tiles; impersonal minimalism; mirrored walls that lack interest; Vessel sinks that look great but in reality are impractical.
If you are remodelling to sell then you may not want to personalize the bathroom too much that buyers cannot see themselves in that bathroom ... but a bit of individuality from 'the rest' may be the thing that makes your home more memorable and quicker to sell.
